5 Tips To Making Moving Easier

Posted on: 17 June 2015

Moving is a daunting task that very few people look forward to. Sure, the excitement of moving into a new home is enjoyable, but all of the work that goes into packing, moving and unpacking everything in your house is dreadful. What can you do to make packing and moving a little easier? Here are a few tips that will do just that.

Think About the First Night

When you arrive at your new house, you won't want to do much more than you have to. So, pack a box of things that your family will need for the first night. Pack a change of clothing, some towels and toiletries, a sharp knife, paper plates, plastic ware and plastic cups, and anything else you think you might want for your first night in your new house.

Put Your Rolling Luggage to Work

You will have to take your rolling luggage along with you for the move, so why not put it to work? Use it to pack books, photo albums or other heavy items. This will eliminate the need to lift those heavy things and make it easy for you to transport them.

Use Garbage Bags for Hanging Clothes

Instead of removing all of the hangers from your hanging clothes to pack them up, cut a hole in the bottom of a garbage bag and slide it over your clothes. Hang a pole in the moving truck for your clothes. This eliminates a lot of the work when it comes time to unpack.

Easily Protect and Pack Dishes and Glasses

Spending hours wrapping glasses and plates with dirty old newspaper is never any fun. Instead of using newspaper, buy brown paper lunch bags for the glasses and cheap Styrofoam plates for the plates.

Stick a glass inside the paper bag and crumble the sides of the bag down into the glass.

Put a Styrofoam plate between each plate and wrap the entire lot of them with a heavy duty rubber band. This can also be done using Styrofoam bowls for your glass bowls.

These two tricks will help keep your glasses and plates safe from being broken during transport and eliminate the need to wash the dishes and glasses as you unpack.

Plastic Wrap Your Drawers

Instead of using masking tape to tape your drawers closed and have to worry about removing the sticky residue that can remain, use plastic wrap to wrap the dressers. This will provide a little bit of protection against scratches and prevent the drawers from sliding open without leaving any of that residue behind.

These are just a few tips that can help you make household moving a little easier for you.
